Introduction
In a world that increasingly recognizes the diversity of human minds, mental health and neurodivergence have become central to conversations about wellness and inclusivity. Despite this awareness, many neurodivergent individuals—those with conditions like ADHD, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), dyslexia, and others—struggle to access personalized, evidence-based tools to support their mental health and wellbeing. Our digital health platform, Shoorah, provides a solution by offering self-assessments designed by Dr. Marc Bouji and Dr. Neetu Johnson, empowering users to understand themselves better and take control of their mental health journey. Shoorah’s version 1 neurodivergent tests have been used, completed and fully tested by 3000+ users within its first 10 days. Our platform also automatically provides users with an in-app and downloadable Ai generated holistic life plan in pdf or as a in-app solution to help reduce symptoms of, anxiety, overwhelm and any stress. All tests are built by our CSO Dr & neuroscientists, clinical doctors, clinical director psychologist, our chief medical officer who is a clinical psychiatrist, and our team of experts such as psychoanalysts, therapists and health advisors who all have rigorously tested this feature. Next steps will include following the DSM5 (USA) recognised by NHS and following the HCPC guidelines, OCD-11 by the world health organisation and testing metric scales from scientifically backed methods such as, VanderBilt for ADHD diagnostics and the Spencer children’s anxiety scale, we are also working on following the NICE guidelines. Whilst we are pending CQC regulation and becoming NHS recognised, all the V1 tests will remain totally free for all users.
This white paper outlines why self-assessments are critical for neurodivergent individuals, how they can foster better outcomes, and the role our platform plays in this ecosystem.
The Need for Self-Assessments in Neurodivergence
- Understanding Unique Neurocognitive Profiles
Neurodivergent individuals often experience diverse challenges in social, educational, and occupational settings. These differences are not deficits but variations in cognition and processing. However, without a structured way to understand their strengths and challenges, many neurodivergent individuals face:
- Delayed diagnosis: Many go undiagnosed for years, leading to unmet needs and struggles in key areas of life.
- Stigma and misunderstanding: Misconceptions about neurodivergent conditions can lead to societal or self-imposed barriers.
Self-assessments bridge this gap by offering a non-invasive, user-friendly way to understand one’s neurodivergent traits, paving the way for targeted support and interventions.
- Promoting Self-Awareness and Acceptance
Many neurodivergent individuals grow up internalizing feelings of inadequacy or self-doubt due to their differences. Self-assessments can serve as a tool for self-discovery, helping individuals:
- Recognize their unique cognitive and emotional patterns.
- Build self-acceptance by understanding their neurodivergence as part of their identity.
- Open doors to targeted interventions that can enhance their quality of life.
- Data-Driven, Ai enhanced Insights for Tailored Care
Traditional mental health assessments often fail to account for the nuanced needs of neurodivergent individuals. Self-assessments curated by healthcare professionals can provide:
- Personalised Ai based recommendations: Suggestions tailored to the individual’s specific challenges and strengths.
- Clear pathways to care: Information that facilitates access to therapy, coaching, or occupational interventions.
