What we do
The Problem
Childhood hunger is one of the most urgent, yet most solvable issues facing children in Africa.
There are over 500 million children in Africa but only 27% of these have access to school meals. In Kenya, 1 in 4 children is stunted due to poor nutrition.
These issues are magnified in urban and peri- urban areas, where inflation and high living costs make food one of Kenya’s most urgent humanitarian needs.
The Solution
We are creating a model of excellence for school feeding that can be replicated across Africa. We aim to bridge the nutrition and education gap for millions of children using an inter-sectoral approach that brings together communities and local and national governments to develop and implement high impact and innovative school feeding solutions at scale.
1: Bulk Sourcing
We source our food in large volumes from large aggregators and network of over 20,000 smallholder farmers to secure best prices.
2: Food Storage
Food is stored in and sorted before meals.
Central Cooking
Food is cooked in central kitchens(hubs). Transition from eco-briquettes to more efficient steam cooking.
Smart Logistics
Food is distributed to a network of schools(spoked) using smart logistics.
3: Tap2Eat Technology
Children use their NFC watch to tap to eat, $0.15 is deducted from their virtual wallet and a digital record is kept.
Children Eat
During lunch, children receive a hot, nutritious meal that enables them to focus, participate and stay in class.
